Security Guard Rescued Alive After Eight Days Beneath Venezuela Quake Rubble

The case of Hernán Gil, a security guard, is one where he was successfully rescued after being stuck alive under tons of rubble for eight days after two quakes hit Venezuela. When the earthquakes hit Venezuela on June 24, Gil was in a concrete shelter in a parking lot underground, serving as a security guard and thanks to the shelter he was protected from harm. The rescue team from Venezuela, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Portugal, and the USA worked tirelessly to drill tunnels that took them over 100 challenging hours in order to save him. During all this time Gil stayed happy, exchanging information with medical staff through a small camera, taking liquids and asking for certain flavors of liquids.
